  • Cultured Books Literacy Foundation, Inc. in partnership with Shaping The Early Mind and Barbershop Book Club conducted the St. Pete Reads! : Family Literacy Engagement Study in the spring of 2022.

The purpose of this study was to receive community insight about family literacy engagement. Specifically, how it relates to the role community plays in the success of early learning and social development among Black youth and families.

We sought input from youth, parents/caregivers and literacy stakeholders of African descent and other BIPOC global majority groups in America.

The conversations informed us that; parents/caregivers wanted help supporting and advocating for their child, more information about literacy programs in South St. Pete, and wanted more literacy programming.

St. Pete Reads! Lit Fest was born to create an enriching environment where families can engage with authors and interactive literacy based activities while also learning about the many resources available to them.

The first St. Pete Reads! Lit Fest took place on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at The Woodson African American Museum of Florida and it was proclaimed by Mayor Welch to be St. Pete Reads! Literacy Day.

  • St. Pete Reads! Lit Fest is a vibrant celebration, coinciding with National Family Literacy Month, and is observed as St. Pete Reads! Literacy Day, proclaimed by the city of St. Petersburg, Florida, on the first Saturday of November. NOVEMBER 5TH, 2023 | 10AM -4PM THE WOODSON AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSEUM OF FLORIDA

  • St. Pete Reads! Lit Fest is for you, me, we; for all of us! A commUNITY celebration of literacy!πŸ“šπŸŽ‰
